Restoration of a J. J. Hicks Barograph

Had the honour of restoring this 19th century barograph.

It's an exceptional and rare piece that I know the customer is looking forward to getting back. It's one of the earliest barographs, and up until the customer walked in with it, one I'd only read about.

It had unfortunately been mishandled by the last repairer, and required a full restoration to the movement, barometer and case.

French Slate Clock Restoration

Movement was in a fairly normal condition considering its age, requiring a couple of bushes and a new mainspring. The screws had become damaged from previous repairs. The case had worn over time and become grey.

The movement was serviced and all the screws re-blued to how they should have been.

The case was blackened and polished to a mirror finish, and the gold inlays redone.

Longcase Dial Restoration

Restoration of a brass dial from an 18th century longcase clock.

The dial was disassembled and cleaned. The inlays were refilled with new engravers wax, and then the chapter rings were silvered.
